PM Modi Introduces 'Fundamental Reforms' For Taxpayers


Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a platform to honour the honest taxpayers of the country. The revealing happened at 11 am today via video conferencing.





Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a replacement platform, 'Transparent Taxation Honouring the Honest'. Aimed to hold forward the journey of tax reforms. Taxpayers won’t be harassed and treated with suspicion, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. As he announced a charter listing their rights and responsibilities.

The legal system are going to be "seamless, painless and faceless", said he during a televised speech. All interaction between the tax department and taxpayers are going to be faceless and done online. To get rid of the scope of harassment and corruption. “With faceless assessment, the taxpayer assured of fair, courteous and rational behavior. Taxpayers charter additionally an enormous step within the country's development journey,” he said.





This considered to be another step which can make the lives of the taxpayers easier. Over the years, the tax department has administered several major reforms, including reduction within the corporate tax. The department had also abolished the dividend tax.





It has also been focusing on simplification of tax laws and increasing transparency in communication. A serious step during this regard was the introduction of Document number (DIN). Wherein every communication of the department would carry a computer generated unique document number .





The tax Vivad se Vishwas Act, 2020, also introduced to settle tax disputes.





Further, the tax department has undertaken several measures to market digital transactions and electronic modes of payment. The department committed to require the initiatives forward and has also made efforts to ease compliance for taxpayers. During Covid-19 time by extending statutory timeliness for filing returns as also releasing refunds. Expeditiously to extend liquidity within the hands of taxpayers.
